Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. For Virginia clients, I am in-network with Aetna and Optum (UMR, UHC, GEHA, etc). I also accept self-pay clients.

For Hawai’i clients, I am not accepting insurance, and am only accepting fee-for-service; however, I do offer sliding scale ONLY for Hawai’i residents.

What if my insurance isn’t accepted?

I can provide a superbill you may submit for out-of-network reimbursement, or you can choose private pay.

How long are sessions?

Standard sessions are 50–60 minutes. Shorter or longer sessions can be arranged.

How often do we meet?

Most clients start weekly. Over time, we may shift to biweekly or monthly depending on your progress and goals.

How do I get started?

You can email me and let me know your name, what type of services you’re looking for, and your goals for therapy.

What issues do you help with?

I specialize in holistic wellness and spirituality counseling but integrate traditional therapeutic methods to support clients with anxiety, trauma, depression, life transitions, and self esteem.

Do you see clients in person or online?

I offer virtual therapy sessions for clients based in Virginia and Hawai’i, and life coaching for clients in other states.

What’s the difference between therapy and life coaching?

Therapy helps address mental health concerns (like trauma or anxiety) with evidence-based counseling. Life coaching focuses on personal growth, motivation, and future goals, and is available across state lines. However, it’s important to note, that life coaching is not covered by insurance.

What does holistic therapy mean?

I integrate mind, body, and spirit in healing. That might include mindfulness, journaling, breath work, spirituality, or self-care alongside counseling.

Do you incorporate culture and spirituality into therapy?

Yes. I believe culture and spirituality are integral parts of who we are, and when relevant, I thoughtfully incorporate them into therapy. This may include exploring cultural identity, family and generational influences, belief systems, and spiritual practices that are meaningful to you. Therapy is always collaborative and guided by your comfort level and values.

As a therapist, how do you incorporate self love and confidence into therapy?

Transcmend offers holistic, trauma-informed therapy in Hawaiʻi and Virginia who want to build self-love, confidence, and emotional resilience. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Hawaiʻi, and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virignia, I work with high functioning adults who may appear successful on the outside but struggle internally with self doubt, burnout, perfectionism, or unresolved trauma. Therapy focuses on strengthening your sense of identity, nervous system regulation, and emotional clarity so you can feel grounded and empowered in your daily life.

Are you a trauma informed therapist?

Yes. Transcmend provides trauma-informed therapy in Hawaiʻi and Virginia, integrating mind-body-spirit approaches to support healing at a deeper level. Trauma-informed therapy recognizes how past experiences impact your nervous system, relationships, and sense of safety. Sessions may include traditional talk therapy, nervous system awareness, emotional processing, and integrative techniques tailored to your needs.

Is this establishment and provider, a licensed provider/therapist?

Transcmend offers secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth therapy for Hawaiʻi and Virginia residents. As a licensed LMHC in Hawaiʻi, and LPC in Virginia, I provide online therapy sessions that are accessible, confidential, and convenient for individuals balancing work, family, or travel. Telehealth therapy allows you to receive professional mental health support from the comfort of your home while maintaining high clinical standards.

Where can I find virtual therapy in Hawaiʻi?

If you're looking for virtual therapy in Hawaiʻi or Virginia, Transcmend provides online sessions designed to fit your schedule. Virtual therapy is ideal for individuals who prefer flexibility, live in rural areas, or feel more comfortable attending sessions from home. All sessions are conducted through a secure platform to ensure privacy and confidentiality.

Can therapy help high achieving individuals experiencing burnout?

Absolutely. Many high-achieving individuals experience burnout, emotional exhaustion, or a persistent feeling of “never enough.” Therapy at Transcmend helps address perfectionism, over functioning patterns, people pleasing, and trauma driven productivity cycles. By focusing on nervous system regulation and emotional awareness, therapy can help you feel balanced, clear, and connected, without sacrificing your ambition.

What is the difference between holistic therapy and traditional therapy?

Traditional therapy often focuses primarily on thoughts and behaviors. Holistic therapy expands this by addressing the connection between the mind, body, emotions, and nervous system. At Transcmend, holistic therapy integrates trauma informed care, emotional processing, and mind-body awareness to support deeper healing. This approach recognizes that mental health is not separate from physical stress responses or lived experiences.
